GM Ray Robson

Ray Robson is an American grandmaster from Guam who had one of the country’s most successful youth careers, achieving his GM norms and 2500 rating in 2009 when he was still just 14 years old. As an adult, Robson’s tournament highlights include the 2015 U.S. Championship, where he finished in second place, a half-point behind GM Hikaru Nakamura and a full point ahead of third-place GM Wesley So. In 2019, Robson won Group A of the Saint Louis Fall Classic by two full points in a field that included 2021 Wijk aan Zee champion Jorden van Foreest.

In April 2023, he established his peak FIDE rating (as of July 2023) of 2704. In June, he won the Prague Masters.

Robson is extremely sharp tactically, winning five consecutive Chess.com Puzzle Battle Championships in 2020, 2021, 2022 (when the fields included 2020 Speed Chess Championship finalists Nakamura and GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave), 2023, and 2024.
